About 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 The 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 offers power, technology, attractive styling and utility in a versatile package with bold styling, HEMI power, ride and handling, safety features and long list of creature comforts. New for 2008 on the Dodge Ram 1500 are two new exterior colors, dark Maple Burl wood grain accents for Laramie models, a 6,000-mile maintenance schedule for all gasoline engines, improved steering linkage for 4x4 models, Trailer Sway Control added to available Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Tire Pressure Monitoring system availability. Among its finer points is a pair of V-8 powerplants: an all-new 4.7-liter V-8 producing more horsepower (310 hp) and torque with better fuel economy than the engine it replaces; and the 345 horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 equipped with the fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS) providing up to 20-percent fuel savings. It's also capable of operating on E85 ethanol fuel. A 215 horsepower 3.7-liter Magnum V-6 engine is standard for Ram 1500 4x2, mated to either a six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 models are equipped with a front-axle-disconnect system that's designed to disengage the front driveshaft when operating in two-wheel drive, minimizing the front-drive system's wear and energy consumption and improving fuel economy.
